Over 1200 enjoy CHAMP Spring Celebration

Excitement filled the air as over 1200 kids plus their families, friends, and coaches gathered in the Calvary Church Sanctuary on Friday, May 13 for a big "end-of-season" celebration. CHAMP Sports Outreach has concluded its spring soccer, flag football, T-ball, and coach-pitch league play, and participants eagerly awaited their trophies and an evening of fun with their teammates!
The celebration began with a warm welcome by Calvary Executive Pastor Scott Vail, and included lively music, awesome door prizes, lots of appreciation to volunteer coaches and families for their participation and support of the ministry. Justin Roper, Director of CHAMP Sports, shared a challenge from Scripture based on 1 Corinthians 10:31, "whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
Special honor was given to coaches Kelly Lamb and Chuck Estes — both members of Calvary Church — for their outstanding leadership in the program and their commitment to the Lord. Kelly has served for 11 years and Chuck has been involved with CHAMP for nearly 14 years.
A surprise visit by the Charlotte Knight's mascot, Homer, delighted the audience!
The highlight of the evening was the powerful testimony by NFL Carolina Panthers kicker John Kasay. Kasay shared that despite our circumstances, God has a wonderful plan for each of us, and we need to put our trust in Him alone. John currently serves as a volunteer coach with CHAMP and actively seeks to be a positive role-model and mentor for young people. He shared that he ultimately hopes to inspire each player and parent to commit their lives to Jesus Christ.
Calvary Pastor of Missions, Jim Cashwell, wrapped up the festive ceremony with a heart-felt Gospel message, and the teams and their coaches dispersed to various locations around the church to receive trophies and celebrate another FANTASTIC season!
